The Jenny Beth Show

Gen Z, Socialism & the War on American Pride in Our Schools | Rod Martin, Stacy Washington

Episode Summary

In this powerful episode of The Jenny Beth Show, Jenny Beth Martin is joined by Rod Martin and Stacy Washington for a deep-dive into one of the most urgent issues facing America today: the rise of Democratic Socialism, the collapse of American pride, and the ideological capture of our education system. Together, they break down why socialist candidates are winning major cities, how decades of indoctrination in schools helped create this moment, and why abolishing the Department of Education is now a national priority. The panel exposes how activist groups have overtaken state education departments, how the 1619 curriculum and action civics are replacing real history and real civics, and what parents must do to protect their children. They also address the alarming plunge in patriotism—especially among Gen Z—and how this threatens military readiness, national security, and America’s future as a superpower. Despite the challenges, the conversation ends with a message of hope. Rod and Stacy share why America can come back stronger, why millions of parents are fighting back, and how the upcoming 250th anniversary of our nation is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to restore civics, revive patriotism, and re-awaken the American spirit.

Narrator (00:00:14):

Welcome to the Jenny Beth Show.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:00:17):

Good afternoon, Patriots, and welcome to the Jenny Beth Show. I'm Jannie Beth Martin. Today we're diving into a theme that is shaping the future of our country, the rise of Democratic socialism, the decline of American pride, and why it is clearer than ever that we must abolish the Department of Education and restore real civics education in America. This is not theory, this is not academic. This is happening right now. This month we saw a self-declared socialist win mayoral races in Seattle, Washington and in New York and in the largest city, New York. Zoran Mond's victory is being celebrated by socialists across the country. He's not alone more than 250 Democratic socialists. Now hold office at the federal and state levels. The socialist wave is real, and we're going to talk about why we also have Gallup polling showing American pride collapsing to the lowest level ever recorded, especially among Gen Z.

(00:01:17):

This matters and it affects military recruitment, our national strength and our future as a global superpower and then the Department of Education. We now know that the main Department of Education has been effectively captured by activist groups, embedding leftist ideology into every grade level statewide. And we also know that kids still go to school even when the Department of Education has bureaucrats who are not working today, conservatives across the country are renewing their calls to simply abolish the Department of Education once and for all. We're also watching Action Civics replace real civics in schools across the country and the 1619 curriculum replacing actual American history. As a result, our civics test scores hit their lowest level ever. So today we ask how do we get here and how do we fix it? Joining me for this panel discussion are two brilliant, outspoken patriots. First, rod Martin is back.

(00:02:23):

Rod is the founder and CEO of Martin Capital, a futurist, a conservative thought leader, and one of the most insightful voices on the cultural and political trends shaping America. His substack is essential reading for anyone trying to understand the next 18 months in America. And we're joined by my good friend Stacy Washington, host of Stacy on the Wright, a nationally recognized commentator, a former US Air Force veteran, Christian conservative leader, and one of the clearest voices today on faith, culture and education and the future of the American family. Rod and Cece, thank you both for being here. Thank you, Jenny Beth, let's start with this headline that is shaking up the political world. This month, Zoran Mond, a proclaimed a self-proclaimed socialist, has just been elected mayor of New York City and one of the nation's largest cities on the west coast. Seattle has indeed elected a socialist mayor. This comes as analysts now estimate that over 250 Democrat socialists are now in office across the country. Cc, I want to start with you. What does this tell you? That socialist candidates are not fringe anymore. They're winning elections in major cities across the country. And how is this trend dangerous for America's future?

Stacy Washington (00:03:42):

Well, it dovetails in with what you mentioned in your monologue about the importance of the Department of Education or in the Trump era, the end of the Department of Education because that's where the leftists use. They use that as basically their hub to seed these pro socialism, anticapitalistic ideals into public schools. And so you've had about 25, 30 years of this indoctrination going on to America's children, and now the result is they're no longer horrified When you say the word socialist, Democrats actually used to consider that an insult. Now Democrats will say, well, socialism, yes, but American socialism and they try to equivocate when in reality socialism is the precursor to communism. Always history shows us that. So Zorn Ani ran on a platform of basically, are you here illegally? Are you an immigrant? Are you brown? Then I'm for you. And Republican voters didn't turn out, so it was a one-two punch, had Republican voters turned out Zoran wouldn't be the mayor of New York City.

(00:04:41):

Now there are some limitations on his power. He can't actually tax. The taxation in New York is elevated to the state level. The governor would have to do that. She's already said, Kathy Holle has already said she's not for to increase taxes on white people based on their neighborhoods. But there are other things that he can do, and I'm most concerned about those who would be victims of violent crime. Women and children who would be sexually assaulted will not find the same kind of investigatory mechanism available to them. And people who dial 9 1 1 for domestic violence calls, we'll find that social workers are responding and you've already had mass defections from the police. They're resigning because they don't want to work for a socialist who hates the police. So a lot to unpack there. There is a way to put a stop to all of this. It's by telling the truth and for Republicans to be on message and speak directly to voters about what's important to them, we have to kind of really hone down and drill down on a message that resonates with voters at the local level across the country to prevent this spread of this evil because socialism is just that. Jenny Beth, it's Evil

Jenny Beth Martin (00:05:41):

Stacey, when you mentioned that about dialing 9 1 1, if you're facing domestic violence and social workers showing up rather than police, that alarms me so much. I mean, it's bad if it happens no matter what the violent situation is, but especially at a domestic level. I have a good friend who, well, I don't want to go into a lot of details. We're on the air live and it's not my story really to tell, but all I can say is had social workers shown up at her house instead of the police, she might not wind up being alive today. And it's very important when those kind of things are happening and a woman is being abused who finally has the courage to dial 9 1 1 and try to get control back of her life, that she's backed up with people who can stand up to the abusive partner. Rod, you weren't months ago in your substack that America could see a surge in socialist office holders if conservatives didn't take culture and education. Seriously, you were right. Why is democratic socialism gaining traction now among voters, especially the young voters when socialism has failed everywhere it's ever been tried?

Rod Martin (00:06:53):

Well, on its most basic level, it continues to succeed because it plays to every vice humans have. I mean, it starts from the exact opposite of the 10th commandment. Thou shalt not covet. Well, socialism is all about coveting. It is entirely about envy. How dare you have something I don't. And the idea of working for the something is completely immaterial because you're an oppressor, you're a terrible person. So we're not going to love our neighbor as ourself. We're going to do unto others as we imagine they did unto us. And just all of this is an inversion of the Christian morality that underpins and has animated Western civilization for centuries. But on another level, it's way more basic. The most basic thing is we've handed over our kids to the state for education for decades past. It was the time it was perfectly clear that they had just become left hand indoctrination camps.

(00:07:58):

So it's true that more schools are rolling out the 1619 curriculum, but they've been there already without formally adopting it for a long, long time. And Christians have to get real conservatives have to get real. As my old friend, Vodi Baum always said, you can't hand your children to Caesar and expect them not to come back Romans. So of course they're coming back. Socialists reality will make a dent in some of that because most of them don't realize that socialism is just about attaining power for an elite. Most of them actually think that it's going to make things fairer somehow, but they'll learn this Zo and Donny thing is going to particularly teach a lot of people just how bad socialism is. That may or may not help New York because a lot of the people who learn it are going to move to Florida and Texas, but it's going to make a difference.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:08:54):

Yeah, I think that you're, they're going to move to Florida and Texas and I heard someone on the radio today saying they could come to Tennessee as well, and I think that that will happen. I just hope that the people in Florida and Texas and Tennessee and wherever else they flee to remind them why they flee and that they should be, they vote to keep our states read and not turned them into the same socialist cesspools that we see in these deep blue areas. Cc, the incoming mayor of Seattle is a community organizer. In 2011, Katie Wilson co-founded the Seattle Transit Writers Union, which is a nonprofit. I think it's so funny, she named her nonprofit a union for people who ride the bus in Subways, but she focuses this nonprofit on public transportation in Seattle and King County, and she has been paid and a full-time employee since 2019. The tax record shows she earned about $73,000 from her nonprofit. And that's fine. She should earn money if she's working. I don't have an issue with that. Her parents generously help cover her $2,200 a month daycare expenses, and she's very fortunate to have parents who are willing to step up and help her per how is she CC equipped with this kind of background to run a city with over 40 departments?

Stacy Washington (00:10:18):

She's not. So this is the problem that Zorin mom, Donny has as well. He's never had a private sector job. He's never written out checks where he has to sign them not to endorse the back to receive the money, but to sign on that front and basically know in your heart that your business has to succeed because your employees are relying on their paychecks from their work for you to support their families. This is a different level of responsibility and neither of these people have that experience. What I thought was interesting about her is that she proudly touted the fact that her parents paid for her children's day here. So my parents have helped my husband and I out many times, especially when we first got married, and we were just so dumb. We didn't know how dumb we were back then, and my parents would step in and help us, but there was a certain point in our marriage where we wouldn't ask my parents for help because we felt like we're adults.

(00:11:12):

This is our responsibility. We've had children, we have a mortgage. This is our thing and we need to make it work. And so if they would give us a gift or something that's completely of their own large, but we no longer expected them to help us, and that's a sign of maturity. It's a sign of being an adult. You look for it in your children. Our kids are young adults now. I look for that sign like we go somewhere. My son will quickly step in. He even bought us dinner a few times and we're waiting for the check to come and he puts his card down and says, I'm paying, and it's his debit card, not a credit card, which I felt very good about. It's a sign of maturity that you pay for things yourself only on a Democrat platform. Would you have your parents supporting you as a full-blown adult and consider that to be something that you would brag about as a sign that you understand how everyone else is feeling.

(00:11:59):

Most of the people who are listening to her talk about her parents pay for her kids' daycare are people who are supporting themselves and don't have their parents still contributing to their monthly bills. So these people aren't qualified. But again, we go back to this core issue. Rod really hit the nail on the head when he said, you're going to have Romans if you send them to Caesar schools. But it's even worse than that because even the Romans in their own way had a knowledge of what their society was built around warmaking and conquering in America, our society is built around a meritocracy and the representative form of government that was given to the Israelites first in the Old Testament when they entered into Canaan. And that system of government has been tried and tested, and it's the longest running constitution in the history of nations, the best experiment and human flourishing that has ever existed on the planet, still running to this day the most desirable location for immigration on the planet. And our children who are now adults and voting don't seem to understand that. So the most important thing we can do here is to prevent another generation from going into these indoctrination camps and coming out as socialists by preventing them from learning these things and instead instilling in them the same values that we took so dear, hold so dear, but maybe have taken for granted. So that's the thing here as we watch these people get elected,

Jenny Beth Martin (00:13:15):

And we're going to talk about that in a few minutes and about the indoctrination that is happening in our schools and what we should do about it. And if the new mayor of Seattle were like 22 or 25 years old and her parents were helping pay for childcare, it would be one thing, but I just looked it up. She's 42 years old. Most people who I know, if they're not making enough money and they're out of their early twenties and they're not making enough money, they're going and getting a second gig, or they're doing something in the hustle economy to bring in more money. I've met so many Uber drivers who are like, yeah, my full-time job is whatever, but I'm doing this so I've got extra money for my family. And she's not doing that. Her parents are just filling in the gaps, which it's very generous. It's their money. They can do whatever they want with their money and they can help their daughter however they think is best. But I don't know that it's actually, it's sort of like teaching Amanda Fish rather than just giving the fish. Her parents have been giving her the fish rather than teaching her how to go out and do things on her own and better take care of herself and her family.

Stacy Washington (00:14:28):

It's embarrassing.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:14:29):

42.

Stacy Washington (00:14:30):

Wow.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:14:31):

Yeah, it's crazy. Okay, so what is the endgame? If this trajectory continues, what in socialism continues to gain ground? What is America going to look like in 10 years? Rod, we'll let you go. And then I'm going to ask Stacy the same question.

Rod Martin (00:14:46):

If it were able to get control of America, the best case would be that the country looks like Detroit or Cuba or Venezuela. We see how this works. Venezuela was one of the richest countries actually before socialism, and then Hugo Chavez won, and they're eating out of garbage piles and their oil industry doesn't work and everything is just in free fall and has been for two decades now, more than two decades we see Detroit, which is just hollowed out. I mean, you're better off living in Nagasaki or Hiroshima than in Detroit. And I mean, this is just horrifying, but they elected bad people to run the places, and those bad people are characterized by moral, ethical, and economic worldview called socialism. So okay, it's not just these localities that are doing this. We got very close to Bernie Sanders winning the Democratic nomination, and it's very likely that a near future democratic nominee is going to be a OC. So we're seeing this coming for us. The question is, are we going to be smart enough to head it off? And so far on a nationwide basis, we have been. But you see plainly the results in the states that have gone down this path, either partly or as far as our constitutional system will allow them. What happens is a mass exodus from those places into states that actually are free.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:16:24):

And Cici, what do you think America will look like in 10 years if this trend towards socialism continues?

Stacy Washington (00:16:31):

Well, we already have, as RA said, we have some pictures of that right now. You mentioned Detroit. Look at Minnesota. Minnesota looks like it's a place where Democrat experimentation has been allowed to run rampant and has gone very far. When they have riots, the elected officials open their windows to smell the burning buildings and burning rubber, and they say that's the smell of resistance. You can look at California, which has a huge, it's one out of every five people who live in California are their illegally, and their entire system of government has been turned over to the support of those lawbreakers as opposed to supporting the taxpayers who live there who have to suffer through rolling blackouts. They don't have enough housing, they have a rampant homelessness problem. They now have poop maps in their major cities. A lot of what you're seeing there looks like what happens to the entire country.

(00:17:17):

I used to call it the California of America years ago when people would say, what will the country look like if the Democrats can finally take control and do what they want? It looks like California, it looks like New York, which the thing about New York is New Yorkers largely resist the things that the Democrats are trying to put in place because it's such a huge city and it has to run on certain principles. But they're still chipping away at that giant, that boulder that is New York and turning it into a socialist haven. And even when their own people look at Mayor Adams, he actually tried to govern as a normal Democrat, not a Republican, a normal Democrat. And his punishment for doing that was that they investigated him and tried to run him out of office, and now he's being replaced by an actual socialist. So what does it look like?

(00:18:05):

It looks like people who have common sense moving out of blue areas into red states, which exacerbates the problem because then you can't get good leadership elected there. So as much as I think it's great to move to Florida, I'd love to live in Florida again, we got married there. I love Florida, but you have to stay. Some Republicans have to live in these places and bring sanity back. We need enough Republicans left there to elect good leadership. And I'm afraid that can't happen if everybody just goes to Tennessee, Texas, and Florida, everybody can't live there. We got to have some people left in the box.

Rod Martin (00:18:37):

Well, and I just want to stress that is a perfect thing for people who would align with Tea Party Patriots. This is a no-brainer. We flip states all the time. It seems slow because it takes a long time in a human lifespan, but in history, it's the blink of an eye. It hasn't been that long since Colorado was a red state. My gosh, it hasn't been that long since California was a red state. But also I remember growing up in Arkansas, there are 75 counties in the state of Arkansas and Republicans ran one of 'em. We were utterly blue. VO Key describes it in his famous southern politics from 1948 as a no party state, because when everybody is a Democrat, effectively you don't have parties at all. And we flipped that to Republican super majorities everywhere as we have done in Florida. Even Miami-Dade is red now. We should not give up on these places. We should change though.

Stacy Washington (00:19:41):

And a perfect example of what Rod is talking about happened during the last presidential cycle. President Trump campaigned in Coachella. President Trump campaigned in New York, New Jersey. He went to the places where the traditional GOP will not go. They not only won't go there, they won't run phone banking operations there. They won't do anything. President Trump went to those places and look at the counties in California that he flipped red. It's such a problem that Gavin Newsom now wants to redistrict those new red voters out of representation because his fear is exactly what Rod has described, which is good governance and great ideas coupled with a message and voter turnout equals flippage. And it can go in either direction. In this case, we need it to go to the right. We need to have people come back to common sense so they can live well and flourish in this country. And that happens when we don't give up, when we actually show up to vote, when we ask for the vote, when we fight, we always win. So I agree with him a hundred percent.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:20:34):

I love that when we fight, we always win. And I think that what you're both talking about is very important. We're waking up in November of 2025 going, oh my goodness, there are 250 Democrat socialists who are in office right now. And yet those Democrat socialists five or 10 years ago, there were not that many in office and they didn't let that deter them. They showed up, they fought and they worked and they campaigned and they got out the vote. And our side has to do the same thing and we can't take liberty for granted. So I completely agree with what you're saying on that in the short term, especially if you've got kids in school, it probably does make sense to move out of those states. But if you can stay and fight and work to help make them better, it's extremely important. It's extremely important to do that because if we wind up being completely divided as a country along political lines geographically, I think that gives us kind of a scary future to look forward to.

(00:21:41):

And I just don't think that that is a good thing for our country. Alright, these are great insights and before we are going to have a lot more, but before we go to the next round, Patriots, if you're watching right now and you have not signed our Petition to Impeach Judge Boberg, please go to impeach boberg.com. And also if you've been watching this show during the month of November, tell us what you think. You can email us at november@jennybestshow.com. Let us know what you think of today's show or any of the shows we've done this month. And now we're moving on to round two. And this one is sobering. A Gallup poll shows at American Pride has collapsed to the lowest level in recorded history among Gen Z. The numbers were catastrophic. Only 38% of Americans say they're very proud to be American, and that's the lowest percentage ever recorded. This is shocking. And Rod, you posted about this Gallup poll and you said it tells us nearly everything we need to know about America today. Elaborate on that.

Rod Martin (00:22:42):

Well, the first thing that jumps off that chart is that Republicans are still proud of America no matter who's in office. And Democrats, I mean there is a huge drop off when there's a Republican in the White House. So their pride in America isn't, their pride in America is Michelle Obama's. They are scolding America to do what they say. And if America does what they say, they might be a little bit prouder. Okay, that's fine. But what isn't fine is that it's not a straight line where it's high when Obama's in and it's low when Trump's in. No, it's not like that. The Democrats have had a complete chipping away of any hint of being pro-American now for 25 years. You see it on that chart that is not true for Republicans, which tells you who is actually pro-America. And you see it in the independence to the degree that we must remember, only 27% of Americans identify as a Democrat, which means most of the people who actually vote Democrat are a mix. It's some people who are Democrats, it's some people who claim to be independence, it's whatever. So in that measure, we're a pretty 50 50 country and the portion of that 50 that is on the left doesn't like this country at all. Now, I would just pose to you this, if they think America is so terrible, why do they want tens of millions of illegal aliens to come to this terrible place? But they do. And that should tell you everything you need to know about that policy.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:24:30):

Rod, why are Americans losing pride in their country and what are the consequences if we don't get this right?

Rod Martin (00:24:37):

It's just exactly what we've been talking about. If you send your kids to a school that teaches them everything about America is evil, that it was founded illegitimately, that it is basically a mafia state that exists to exalt evil people and oppress the weak. Yeah, why would you be proud of that? Nobody would be proud of that. The difference is that Republicans know better. We've actually read a history book that wasn't written by Howard Zen, and so our kids aren't growing up that way. And you'll notice there's a lot of positive in Gen Z two. Gen Z males are majority Republican now. You see a lot of Gen Z men actually moving back into churches adopting Christian morality and traditional values. Unfortunately, the Gen Z women are much further left than those Gen Z men are. Right? And it dramatically skews the whole picture.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:25:39):

It really does skew the whole picture. And having raised a boy and a girl twins at the exact same time watching what they were and observing as they were going through public school, the themes that they were teaching, I think that the way that they teach how bad men are and white men are, but especially just men, whether you're white or not, they teach that men are bad. So I am not surprised at all to see that men in the Gen Z generation are saying, yeah, enough of this. I want to go where people respect me and don't judge me because of the way that I was born. But all the women, they don't all turn out like my daughter and Stacey's daughter have turned out. Unfortunately,

Rod Martin (00:26:31):

I'm personally responsible for every evil in the world. I know this because Iram Kennedy told me, but the problem is so is Stacey because Joe Biden kidding when he said, if you aren't for me, you ain't black. We think that they are actually judging us by our most superficial characteristics. That is certainly the racialism of the left now. But in reality, they aren't even doing that. They're using that as an easy way to peg people. But what they're really saying is you believe with us or you believe with those people over there. If you're with us, we're going to label you as something that is good within our matrix, whether it's black or transgender or an ally or whatever it may be. And if you are with Jenny Beth Martin, then you're just the devil if we believed in one. And so there's just nothing you can actually do. That's right. And that's the essence of critical theory in a nutshell. It defines one group of people as incapable of doing wrong and the other group of people as incapable of redemption. Hillary wasn't kidding when she said we're irredeemable. She meant it. And it's a tenet of the Marxist faith.

Stacy Washington (00:27:51):

It is, it is. I have to tell you, I just go back to what Barack Obama said when he was in office. He said that we weren't an exceptional nation and he spent eight years trying to convince us of that. And we listened and in many ways we saw performance in the economy and other areas of American life that mimicked the downward talk that was coming from the executive branch because the country follows its leader unfortunately. And fortunately then we saw a backlash to what he'd said about us, the election of Donald Trump, a wrecking ball, a human wrecking ball. He came in and he reset the table in Washington DC and would have continued to do so. But then you had Biden come in, a desiccated husk of a man who he didn't really talk about whether or not America was exceptional or not because he didn't know where he was.

(00:28:36):

And so his people behind the scenes ran that administration and now you have President Trump and he's back and he's coming in. It's not even a wrecking ball anymore, it's more like a force of nature, more like a huge mega super tornado, a fire tornado. He's burning through the Department of Education and U-S-A-I-D and he's resetting the table internationally pieced through strength, but on a hyper level because you have the B 52 bombers traveling in complete stealth across the globe and hitting targets the size of a refrigerator door and then getting back pure unadulterated excellence. And so when we talk about what Barack Obama tried to convince us of Americans didn't believe him, people wouldn't want to live here if this place was as horrible and racially charged as he tried to convince us that it was his wife is now out trying to convince us again that most white people are trying to convince people who are like me, a black woman, how we're supposed to wear our hair, and the year of our Lord 2025 ridiculous.

(00:29:30):

But she's still out there on the cover of people with a new coffee table book trying to convince us that everything in our life is about race. And so the bigger conversation that we're having here today that has to be had nationally in at tables across the country is first of all, how do we bring these girls back from the brain? Because my son needs a wife, right? He only needs one. But these young women who are radicalized and on the left, they're setting themselves up for a life of degradation and reliance on the government. They'll never have children, they'll never be happily married, they'll never be able to experience the joys that so many of us have experienced that we're older and we've already been there. And then the other part is we do have two daughters. And when they came home from school with these ideas, boys drool girls rule, I told them, well, does your brother drool?

(00:30:15):

Does your father drool? Because remember when you say boys, you're talking about all of them. And we had these conversations over time. I encourage parents, even if your daughters are adults, when you hear them express these hardcore feminist ideals that lead to an unhappy life, that the sociologists and anthropologists have proven that unmarried women, they've never experienced motherhood, they do not have the same quality of life as women who have. I encourage parents don't think that you have no influence over these young adults if they're still coming to your house for Thanksgiving. If they're still texting you, if they're still in the family group chat, they still have a relationship with you and they do care what you think. They might not present as such, but they do. And it's your job as a forever parent to never ever stop imparting these ideals, these high and lofty ideals of an American society and the archetype of the man and woman that pretty much every other person on the globe wants to be.

(00:31:09):

And that's the American man and the American woman. My theory, my position is that most people on this planet want to be the archetypal male and female, which in this year, in this decade, in this century is the American man and the American woman. And so if that's the truth and I believe it is, then it's up to us to preserve and maintain our heritage that is a gift from God and to actually walk out that archetypal responsibility. We are the people that everyone else wants to be. And that's not an accident. We work hard, we work harder than any other people group on the planet. We work more hours, more weeks, more days. We are the people who work and drive GDPs and economic outcomes across the globe through our hard work and effort. And it is important to us to maintain that and to maintain America for our children and grandchildren.

(00:32:01):

And the only way we can do that is by telling the truth and participating. We can't stay home. We can't be asleep, we can't be silent. We have to be out there doing what you're doing. Jenny Beth here on this show, spreading the truth. We have to continue to do that. And I think we can turn things around. It's obvious that we can turn things around. Look at President Trump 10 months in. It feels like he's been there for two years. Again, that's how much he's accomplished so far and he's not even done. So let's be like President Trump, let's be great and let's not let anybody down talk us again. I don't care who gets elected again, the first person I hear talking about America not being exceptional, I'll buy their ticket out of here. Get out. You need to go. If you don't think this place is exceptional, that's like saying your husband isn't exceptional or your children.

(00:32:42):

Well, why are you spending time with them? Why are you hanging out with a guy who's not exceptional? Why are you talking about your kids like that? They're your kids. You raised them. If they're not exceptional, that's on you. We need to be the same kind of cheerleaders for this country that we are for ourselves in our personal lives. I never allow anyone to say anything bad about my children in front of me. They don't even know my kids. How could you possibly know anything bad about my child? That's the way we have to be about this country. You cannot downtalk America to me because everybody wants to live here and I'm a citizen of this country. And if citizenship could be sold, we would be selling our citizenships for millions of dollars, right? If that was a thing. I mean the Trump goal card is a thing, but I mean if you could sell your own individual citizenship, we would be wealthy.

(00:33:24):

The only other place on the planet I would go be a citizen is Switzerland. And I'm too old. I looked, I can't get citizenship there the fast way because they only prioritize young people. And even then you have to have enough cash to buy your own home and you have to have a sponsor, which is your new employer. You can't just move there and be jobless. So that's the only other place I would hold citizenship and I still would prefer to be an American, which is what I am, so I don't have to worry about it. So let's preserve this country.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:33:52):

Absolutely. I love what you said. We are the people that people want to be. I love that. Stacy, you also were talking about the military. Now military recruitment is up again, and an article from the September US Army War College publication highlights that among Gen Z, those who rated patriotism as important were 52% more likely to have considered military. But among those who rated patriotism as unimportant, only 30% had considered it. If this decline in American pride continues, how does that impact our national security and our future as a superpower?

Stacy Washington (00:34:34):

Well, if you couple these statistics with what we've seen and obviously obesity, numbers and the health of Americans, you can see that we won't be able to constitute a all volunteer military. And that is something that is a hallmark of our military excellence. The people who are on active duty actually want to be there. And I know you can have an excellent military. The IDF is excellent, everybody there serves, but their whole worldview as being the only true kind of republic located within the Middle East and the target of all of these countries, ire means that their people have a different outlook on their lives and their service to their country than a western country like ours where we're a world superpower. And so we don't need everyone in our country to serve for two years or four years. Mandatory service for compulsory service is not necessary, but we do need a healthy body of people who would see military service as a benefit to themselves and are desirous of serving something greater than themselves.

(00:35:29):

And that's what military service in the United States is about. It's about going into the greatest war fighter on the planet, learning how to contribute to that and placing it above yourself for four years or eight years or for a career. And in exchange for that, you get some education benefits, but you also get to be a veteran. You get to join the largest standing army on the planet, which we have two of those. We have our gun owners, hunters and gun owners. That's the largest standing army on the planet. And our second or the first, depending on the numbers, is our veteran community. People who've gone abroad, who served this country, who are proficient in all kinds of really highly technical fields that they learned how to operate in while they were on active duty. So of course the left would do things to damage that because a nation that can't defend itself in war is not really a nation.

(00:36:21):

They attack our sovereignty on every level. That's a hallmark of the Democrat party right now. They attack our sovereignty through the open southern border. They attack our sovereignty through teaching our children that our country isn't great. The capitalism is a horrible scourge instead of the driving factor for our amazing economy, they attack our economy itself by bringing in H one B visa workers and all kinds of different scenarios where Americans have to compete with foreigners for jobs that belong to us because we're the citizens. They attack our founding and our way of life, and they attack biology, male and female. The binary construct of truth and lies, light and darkness, male and female, binary construct is the very foundation of everything that we see, not just in biology, but the world around us. And all of those things are under attack by Democrats. So the most important thing we can do is to fight them.

(00:37:09):

We have to fight them on these things, and we have to teach our children that they're fearfully and wonderfully made, that this country is a gift from God, that their heritage as an American is something that people would die to attain. They're literally dying on boats from Cuba and every other way. And that it's important that they preserve it. We have to pass on the impetus to preserve. I would never allow someone to come here in my house and attack any part of it to try to destroy any part of it. And I wouldn't allow them to attack my husband or my children. Same for me. So why do we allow people to come here and attack America? It's our country. It's something we should want to preserve. And the way to do that is to fight the Democrats, which is what they're calling themselves now any day now I'm expecting them to say they're the Democrat socialist of America, that to adopt that horrible little organization and that then the change will be complete.

(00:38:01):

They're already there. It's just the name isn't changed. So we have to fight them. It's so important. They use the term resist. They're always about, they put on their anatomical hats and their suits and their hair and they go out and they start firebombing police precincts, they're fighting us. We can't tuck in our sweater vests and our bow ties and sit back and write op-eds. I love op-eds, I write them. But we have to also fight them not just on the field of ideas, but actually fight them in the streets. They have to be arrested, they have to be prosecuted, they have to be brought to justice. We have to support ice, we have to support military. We have to teach kids that not everybody's going to go to college. Some people are going to go in the military and have amazing careers. We have to do all of these things because they're already fighting us. We have to fight them back.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:38:46):

Rod, if you were speaking directly to Gen Z, the ones who are indifferent about America and they think that America is inherently bad, what would you say to them and why should these two believe in America?

Rod Martin (00:38:59):

Well, they should absolutely believe in America. And all they have to do is listen to you and Stacey, y'all articulate it better than just about anybody, but just look at the migrant caravans. Just look at the migrant caravans. We've got all these pictures of thousands upon thousands of people literally walking from Honduras to come cross the Rio Grande and not immigrate legally, not actually attain any legal status here. Live here as a criminal subculture for as long as they can get away with it. That's how much people all over the world love America and want to be part of America. Okay, well, if they want that and you Democrats want them to do that, then explain to me how bad America is. Again, if this is the most oppressive country in the world, and I have heard more than my share of Democrats say that this is the most oppressive country in the world.

(00:40:01):

I can only guess. They've never been to Iran, they've never been to Sudan, they've never been to China. Maybe they don't know what else is going on around the world, except of course we know plenty of them do. This is the greatest country in the world and we see it because people vote with their feet. Now, if that's true, what about it is special? Well, it's not socialism because they have that where they're coming from. It's not redistribution of wealth. I would contend that it's the opportunity to create wealth from nothing. So you get an immigrant like Elon Musk and he becomes the richest person in the world here because he creates things that nobody else has ever created in human history. You get all of these different amazing people like Steve Jobs, who was the child of Assyrian. All these different people come here and make miracles happen, not because of their ethnicity, not because of their geography, but because of our system, our constitutional system, our just general encouragement of freedom. And above all our opposition to the central tenet of socialism, which is envy in America. We cheer for other people's success. It's remarkable. There's hardly any other place on earth like that. Just go check them out. You can find out for yourself. Envy is rampant. America is refreshingly lacking in envy, and as a result, everybody cheers when you do something amazing. And that is the difference. That's why we build things here that are the marvel of the world.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:41:49):

Rod, thanks for that. And if you're watching right now, don't forget to like and share and subscribe this so we reach more people, share the show with your friends and your family, so it helps grow the movement. If you're on Facebook, I see you and on XI noticed that Joel was asking who is it? And he said it's an awesome feed. And he is in total agreement with your comments and he's asking, who are the people? Who's speaking? So this is Rod Martin. He's the CEO of Martin Capital and he is on X. You can find him by typing in Rod Martin and also Stacy Washington who has a serious XM show, Stacey on the right. So be sure to go and check them out. Rod's been on, this is the third week in a row he's been on, and I love doing these episodes with him.

(00:42:37):

He is very, very insightful and fun. And it's the first time I'm doing my show is Stacey, but I've done Stacey show several times and she is absolutely amazing. So you can check her show out in the evenings on Sirius xm. Alright, we're going to move to round three and we have one more round after this and we'll have to be a little bit fast so we stay in our time constraints. But we know now that the main Department of education has effectively been taken over by activist groups pushing DEI and action civics into every grade. And meanwhile, conservative outlets like PJ Media and City Journal are openly calling for the Department of Education to be totally abolished. The Freedom Caucus is doing the same thing with congressmen like Chip Roy and Andy Biggs. Anna Polina are pushing Congress to abolish it. And also the Secretary of Education has put out this video questioning the need for the Federal Department of Education. Let's correct,

Sec. McMahon Clip (00:43:36):

Kept the government shut down for 43 days. Flights were delayed, snapped benefits ran dry. Small business and housing loans were frozen. But one major component of life for American families went virtually unaffected education. The Federal Department of Education furloughed 90% of its staff. And what happened? Nothing. School stayed open, students went to class, teachers got paid. The shutdown proved our schools don't depend on Washington bureaucracy to function. If 90% of an agency supposedly governing education can disappear for weeks without disrupting education, do we really need it all?

Jenny Beth Martin (00:44:21):

So Stacy, 93% of the Department of Education was furloughed and it still was working. Why is this now time to abolish the Department of Education? What do you think about what Secretary McMahon said?

Stacy Washington (00:44:35):

Okay, so first of all, I just want to add before I answer this question that I noticed that my taxes were still removed when I got paid, even though the government was shut down. Yes,

(00:44:46):

That's true. Now is it okay? I mean you guys don't have to, if nobody cares about that, it's fine. But I want to make a note that how could the government really be shut down if the taxes still came out and why weren't the military folks still paid? Because the taxes were still coming out. So the function, something's wrong with the scenario where they can shut down little bits of the government and call it a shutdown. But the main part of the government, the beast is still autonomous and it's still sucking in the tax dollars, amazing amounts of revenue. We always set a record. Every year we set a record for taxes collected in our country. Why is that? We had a government shutdown for 40 days and we're still going to have record tax collection for 2025. These are questions I'd love to have answered.

(00:45:27):

Anyway, as far as the Department of Ed, what's interesting about the Department of Education, I was an elected school board member. What ends up happening is if you're in a district where the majority of your children's per pupil expenditure is actually covered by the taxes collected in the district, then when the federal government sends you program dollars, they have things attached to it. And what your school board will do is they'll say, this is an actual thing that happened. While I was on school board, we were offered $123,000 a year to fund a program in the district. And as we were looking at it, I was a new board member and one of the board members, he was on his fifth term, he said, well, let's see what they want in exchange for this money. And he went through and read the fine print and he said, well, they're going to require us to do some reporting, which means with this level of reporting, we probably need to add another person.

(00:46:18):

So we're going to have to pay a salary for an additional person to answer this reporting. And he said, if you look at the other things they're asking, we decided not to do these things in our buildings because parents don't like these things. So the 123,000 will be a wash. We're not going to really get a benefit from it, and this is not a program we need, we actually need to address. And he named off some other things. And so we declined the funding. But the problem with that is we sent money to the federal government. When we decline funding, you're basically denying money that you've already sent being returned to you. So the abolishment of the Federal Department of Education is an absolute must because we don't need them deciding how money at the local level should be spent, and we don't need the democratization of education dollars.

(00:47:06):

This is what they call it when Rich states send money to the federal government and it gets redirected to so-called poor states when we could have those states manage their money better and provide a better educational outcome. And we're talking about the indoctrination camps. Earlier in the show, we just admitted that the Roman schools aren't going to give us the educational product that we need. So why should all of us have to pay for it? We paid for our kids' education twice. They were in public school for grammar, and then they went to a private school. We paid for that. But our property tax dollars never ever helped to fund our kids' education when we took them out. That's also improper use of what they call taxpayer dollars, which are really just your money. And mine

Jenny Beth Martin (00:47:46):

Rod. For years, conservatives have talked about reforming the Department of Education and now the tone has shifted. It's abolition or nothing. Oh, okay. So we lost Rod, so I'm not sure what happened there. But Stacy, we found that the Department of Education in Maine from this is from a study from earlier this summer. It shows that documents reference that the seat school officials were coordinating curriculum with activist groups who openly brag about injecting ideology and the math science in English in everything. It's not education, it's just indoctrination. So if this is happening in Maine, where else do you think it's happening and why is it such a problem for the departments of education at a state level to be actively working with partisan activist groups rather than working on education?

Stacy Washington (00:48:42):

Well, and you got to love defending Ed because that's a group of parents. Many of them were democrats when they joined defending ed and now they're just education advocates for good education options for kids. But Jenny Beth, you're asking, this is a question all parents should ask themselves. This has been going on for decades. I've been off school board for over a decade, and they were talking about embedding their ideological viewpoints into curriculum back then because they knew that parents would opt out. If it's controversial and it requires a permission slip, parents usually opt out because they prefer to teach their own worldview. And especially about reproduction. Parents want to teach that to their kids themselves. And I highly recommend that you use the anatomically correct terms for your children's bodies from the time they are very, very small. You teach them the proper names and you teach them about the function, the difference between males and females.

(00:49:30):

And then you get an anatomy book. The big illustrated ones are for sale for 5 99 at Barnes and Nobles. And anytime they ask you a question about biology, you go straight to the anatomy book and you point out the parts and you answer in simple direct sentences. And as they get older, they will come to trust you far more than any outside source on what if they have questions about their body, if they have things that they're, my friend said this, this, and that happens, they'll come to you and they'll ask you and you think, oh my gosh, that's so uncomfortable. What's more uncomfortable having your child be taught by some other kid their own age, all about anatomy, physiology and biology, or having them trust you and you being able to tell them the truth and prevent them from being indoctrinated in school? So the idea here is they want to change your child into a tiny militant socialist.

(00:50:16):

Your goal should be to prevent them from doing that because that's not actually their role. They were hired to educate your child. Instead they're trying to indoctrinate them, so you should be protecting your kids from that. Public schools now are kind of untenable, accepting certain circumstances across the country where the indoctrination has been prevented and the teachers are really active. And so I would just say she's right. Linda McMahon is right. School went on. The government was shut down. The education department was completely shuttered. So why do we need it? I'd love to see them end it right away.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:50:48):

And then I'm going to move to the final topic for today. Right now, real civics, and I think that this will help tie everything together. Real civics and real history are being replaced in classrooms across the country. The 1619 curriculum has replaced actual United States history. We already talked about how critical social justice series is going on in the country rather than critical thinking, civic scores have dropped and they've hit their lowest record ever. Recorded Action civics, which teaches activism rather than citizenship, is becoming the norm. In 2023, a US news article highlighted that student test scores decline in US history. And the subheading of this I think is really important. And it said, young people are more active in politics than ever, but their knowledge of history and government continues to decline. I think this should alarm. Every single American civic test scores have gone down. Patriotism is down, socialism is on the rise. This isn't an accident. It's a result of replacing civics with activism, education with indoctrination critical theory or critical thinking with critical social justice theory. So Stacy, what is restoring real civics education look like and how do we rebuild it when so many institutions are working against it?

Stacy Washington (00:52:11):

I think we go back to the old books. We go back to the civics education manuals that were present in the seventies or the sixties. You kind of go back and compare what were civics classes like when they were still here the last year of civics education nationally, and then compare that by decade and choose the curriculum that most closely matches and aligns with the worldview that we want for children, which is that America is great and I can be a part of making it greater. I really think it's that simple. We kind of want it to be complex. We don't need a commission, or maybe we do the commission just reviews the civics curriculum and then goes back to an older model one that has been proven to educate children well, and that's the standard.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:52:52):

And one lady on Facebook, Molly, she said it starts at home. And I completely agree. It absolutely starts at home. Stacy, well, one last question on this topic and then I'm going to have one more question. If you could speak to every parent in America right now, what is the one thing you'd say they must do to restore civics education in our homes?

Stacy Washington (00:53:16):

Well, it's about relationship. So the time that you spend with your kids where you don't have a phone or a screen or a device going on and you're laughing and you're enjoying each other, that's the foundation for them trusting you to be their kind of pillar where they can come to you with any question, with anything that they want to know. And so once you have established and are maintaining that relationship, which sometimes means you have to let other things go because you only have the 18 summers with them. 18 summers, and they're off of your control. So you want to maximize every moment that you have with them. And then you want to take them on trips, take them to Monticello, take them to Mountain Vernon, take them across the country and let them see how great this place is. Instead of watching a video or them learning about it from a book, they read the book. And then your next vacation is you're driving across the country and stopping at these different places and showing them the wonder that is this great land. I believe what we can do as parents to help. And then of course, you're the chief authority. No one usurps your authority over your children. God gave them to you, not to the public school system.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:54:23):

That is good. And we're trying to get Rod back on. I think we all know he is. Yay. There he is. There've been major internet issues today, and so I'm just blaming it on that Rod. That's what we're going with.

Rod Martin (00:54:35):

I think that's probably true.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:54:37):

So Rod, I asked Cece, and I'll ask you this as well. I'm looking at my notes just to make sure that I've got it right, but if there was one thing that you could tell parents directly, what is the one thing you would say that they need to do to restore civics education and American patriotism in their own home with their own children or grandchildren?

Rod Martin (00:54:58):

Well, I'd say two things. First, if your child must be in public school or if you're just a taxpayer in a school district, for heaven's sake, get together with Tea Party pager. It's Moms for Liberty. Other groups that are serious about reforming the local school board, that's the most important thing on that subject. But second and much more important, take responsibility for the education of your own children. It's your responsibility. God gave them to you, not the state. They are not wards of the state. They are your children. So if that means homeschooling or Christian schooling or whatever, for heaven's sake, do it. But also in states like Florida where we now have universal school choice, we'll actually give you some of that money that you're paying in taxes every year back as a voucher. Whether you're a private schooler or a homeschooler, it does not matter. We'll help you educate your child, but you get the responsibility for deciding what they learn and that's how it's supposed to work.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:56:02):

I think that's a great point. And you were mentioning our group. Thank you for the shout out. And Moms for Liberty, we've also got great educational resources at Hillsdale. They've got Constitution 1 0 1 and a ton of other programs that we can take as adults. They've got a K 12 recommended curriculum. Then the Heritage Foundation has recommended curriculums. I was looking at Hillsdale's site earlier today. They have a list of books that they recommend for each grade level. That's a great place to go and look at different things you might want to be making sure your kids have learned about. Of course, moms for Liberty, defending education, who we pointed to earlier today in one of their studies about Maine, and then the Tuttle Twins have great books and Liberty kids. There are a lot of good resources available and I just want to give a shout out to all those great, great coalition partners and great companies that are helping us educate our kids better. Okay. I want to end today's show with something that I think we all need and that's hope. And there is hope. There are millions of Americans who are fighting back. They're standing up for their children and for their grandchildren, and they're recommitting to the founding principles that made this country the great country that it is. So Rod, give our audience one reason to be hopeful about America's future and where do you see the revival beginning or continuing?

Rod Martin (00:57:28):

Well, the most basic thing is that we're winning. Okay. We lost Mayor of New York. We always lose Mayor of New York. We lose Mayor of New York. When a Republican wins, it doesn't matter. We are winning. And you saw that last year when we won every single swing state. If we stay on message, if we explain our values, if we tell people why what we want to do for them is better for them and their futures and their children, we win. And we just have to get very disciplined about that. Conservatives have a tendency to win a big election and then go home for four years. That is an absolute recipe for disaster. The left sees politics as their religion for heaven's sake. They are devout and they are constantly working this, they're constantly working against us. So we have to work every bit as hard and even harder and the truth will prevail.

Jenny Beth Martin (00:58:26):

And Cece, what gives you confidence that America can come back stronger? And what role can the citizens across this country take in this revival?

Stacy Washington (00:58:34):

Well, for me it's a few different things. Well, first of all, when I talk to my kids and they have friends who are on the left, and sometimes they talk about the things that they're struggling with and I hear the empathy, but I also hear them talking about the reality of everyday life. Life is a struggle. It's hard for everyone. It's hard for the people like to say, okay, boomer, and act as if people who are in that age range don't have problems. They do. They have things they struggle with. And so what do we look at to have encouragement? Well, sometimes I just look up and I'm driving down the highway headed west, and I look up at the western sky and I see the clouds and the clouds are different every moment of every day. There's never been the same cloud formation in the sky ever.

(00:59:17):

It's never repeated. It's always different. And that level of creativity points me back to the cross. And I am so encouraged when I think about all of the different ways in which the Lord has answered my prayers and my prayers for this country. And so you talked about coalition partners. IFA pray is the intercessors for America. And they pray for our elected officials in our country. And they are a huge part of why I feel very encouraged when I look around the country and see the wins that Rod was talking about. President Trump is a blessing to us. He a hardworking, he's a free employer for us, by the way, hardest working man in America. And he is for us, an example on how we can win even when the odds are stacked against you, even when the odds are stacked against you and you can't imagine winning, you can still win if you look at the way President Trump did, exactly, the swing states the popular vote, all of it.

(01:00:05):

And then the other thing is when I see babies, babies are completely innocent of all of our political realities and they're such a joy to watch as they observe and begin their journey. The same journey that we once started, we were babies once upon a time too, and our parents probably had some of the same fears that we have. Things weren't as bad back then, but they were bad. And they'll always be like that because humans are involved. So we can be encouraged and we can look up, we can look at the sky, look at the trees blowing. If it's a rainstorm, look at the way the trees dance in the rain. They're actually getting buffeted, but it looks like they're dancing. Look at the way that a baby is enjoying life, holding a piece of lint. A baby is completely satisfied with basically nothing. Enjoy a warm cup of coffee and a danish or get an apple and eat it. You can be encouraged by any little thing and think about the times where something's been bad and the solution came and the gratitude for that. So we have to remind ourselves of the times before when things have been difficult. Our country has seen some pretty rough stuff and we are still here so we can be encouraged and we can expect to win if we're willing to be a part of it and to fight. And I think that's the thing.

Jenny Beth Martin (01:01:16):

That's it. Cece, I think that's great. When you were just talking about looking to the west and seeing the clouds, you would not believe how many photos of sunsets and sunrises I have on my phone. I look at that and I just remember God's glory and God's creation is so much bigger than any of my problems at all, and he can help solve whatever problem I might be facing. And I also have so many photos of beautiful flowers that I just catch, like little snaps of photos that I have from going on walks. And God can create these amazing, beautiful flowers. And if he can do that, and it says this in Matthew, if he can take care of flowers like that, he's going to take care of all of us. So that should give us all encouragement and hope. And then there's something else that gives me encouragement. We are headed into the 250th anniversary or birthday of this country, And I am so looking forward to celebrating that. And during the Biden years, there were several times when I would say to my team, oh my goodness, we have to make sure that we don't have a Democrat liberal leftist president who is in charge of our country during our 250th birthday. That would be a disaster. And God answered our prayers. We have President Trump and we're going to see all sorts of opportunities for education, teaching, civics education, and teaching history again to our fellow Americans, the adults, the children, the college students, all of them as we begin to celebrate this in earnest next year. And so that gives me a lot of hope. In fact, our organization is planning to do a bus tour focused on the free speech aspects of the First Amendment to celebrate the 250th anniversary. After all, we're Tea Party Patriots. We started from the Boston Tea Party where people gathered together use their voices and petition their government, and we're going to remind people that that's part of the First Amendment and we should celebrate it.
